Ohio Caverns
West Liberty, OH, 54°F inside, from $25
A seasonal Ohio cave whose one-hour guided tour goes down natural stone steps to an underground river 110 feet below, at 54°F.
Two boys from Flat Rock, Peter Rutan and Henry Komer, found the cave in June 1872 while chasing a rabbit with their dog; it was first known as Good's Cave after the farm's owner. In 1931 Bellevue lawyer Don Bell found new passages leading down to an underground river, and after about two and a half years of work the cave opened to the public on May 14, 1933.
