Linville Caverns
A show cave in the North Carolina mountains with small-group guided tours leaving every 10 minutes, open year-round.
The story
Linville Caverns were discovered by Henry E. Colton in 1822 during a fishing trip near Humpback Mountain. Deserters often took refuge here during the Civil War. Due to the efforts of John Q. Gilkey, Linville Caverns opened to the general public in 1937. Since that time, many upgrades to the pathways and lighting system have enhanced the safe touring experience.
