The story

In 1921, the Powell family opened the cave, then called Fairy Cave, and gave the first tours to the public. The Powell family believed the cave's large, beautiful crystal formations would inspire people. Three generations of Powells served as stewards of the cave. Now three generations of Herschends are dedicated to its care.
