Blanchard Springs Caverns
Stone County, AR, 58°F inside
A cave in Bull Shoals, Arkansas with guided tours on lit concrete walkways at 59°F, next to a recreated 1890 Ozark village.
Human history in the caverns dates back thousands of years, with evidence of Native American use documented through carbon dating as early as around 300 BC. During the Civil War, Confederate soldiers harvested saltpeter here. In the early to mid-1900s, the caverns served as a hideout for moonshiners during Prohibition. During World War II, locals used them for refrigeration and storage of food and whiskey. The caverns were first opened to the public as a privately owned show cave for tourism in 1958.
